WFH, no vehicle day, and ban on foreign travel: Delhi CM announces ‘Mera Bharat Mera Yogdan’ campaign after PM’s austerity appeal


Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to people of the country in view of the Wesr Asia crisis, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched a ‘Mera Bharat Mera Yogdan’ public campaign to promote austerity measures to conserve fuel and save foreign exchange.

Addressing a press conference in Delhi, CM Gupta said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made an appeal in national interest and keeping the current situation in mind, to maintain economic stability. As the Delhi government, we have prepared certain plans which will be implemented as a public campaign by the government,” CM Gupta said, while announcing the ‘Mera Bharat Mera Yogdan’ campaign.

As part of the campaign, CM Gupta announced several measures, invluding work from home, staggered office timings, ban on major government events for three months and foreign travel for one year.

She said that government employees will be working from home for two days a week and private companies will also be asked to allow two-days work from home.

“As part of the plan, private companies will be advised to allow employees to work from home for two days a week wherever feasible, while government offices will also adopt a similar arrangement. The Labour Department will monitor implementation in the private sector,” she said.

She said that her ministers will travel via metro on every Monday and announced staggered office timings to reduce traffic congestion.

Foreign travel for government officials will remain prohibited for one year and the government will not hold any major public events for three months.

Air-conditioner temperatures will be maintained between 24°C and 26°C in government offices. The chief minister also urged residents of Delhi to observe one “No Vehicle Day” every week.
