Vote Theft Allegations: Priyanka Gandhi Slams Election Commission

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Friday criticised the Election Commission, accusing it of inaction and bias in response to allegations of electoral fraud. Her remarks come after the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka on Thursday called upon Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to provide evidence under oath to support his allegations against the Election Commission of India.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier in the day claimed vote theft in recent elections, which the Congress party alleges were significant enough to impact the outcome.

“Rahul Gandhi ji has made such a big revelation, it should be investigated. The Election Commission is not providing the voter list, not conducting an investigation, and instead is demanding an affidavit,” Priyanka Gandhi said, asserting: “We are continuously showing data, but why is the Commission not ready to accept its own data?”

“From the kind of statements coming from the BJP and the Election Commission, one thing is absolutely clear: there is massive fraud happening,” Priyanka Gandhi alleged while talking to reporters outside Parliament.

The controversy began when Rahul Gandhi alleged that there were over 1,00,250 fake votes in the Karnataka Assembly segment, benefiting the BJP. The Election Commission immediately responded, asking Rahul Gandhi to sign an affidavit regarding these claims.

Priyanka Gandhi’s comments underscore concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. The Congress party demands a thorough investigation into the allegations, emphasising the need for transparency and accountability in electoral governance.
