The drama around Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Jana Nayagan’ just got messier, and this time, it’s not about box office numbers. A shocking online leak of the entire movie has triggered a political storm, with sharp comments about political journey of Vijay by a DMK MP. And yes, the gossip mills are working overtime.
The controversy exploded when P Wilson, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), publicly mocked Vijay’s ability to lead. His criticism connected the film’s security breach to Vijay’s ambitions in politics.
Vijay, who is contesting the upcoming elections as chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), suddenly found his film trouble turning into political ammunition. And just like that, what started as a piracy issue became full-blown political gossip.
Political swipe sparks online debate
Wilson didn’t hold back. Taking to X, he pointed out that the leak reportedly came from an editing studio hired by the film’s own production team. His post questioned how Vijay could claim he would protect Tamil Nadu if he couldn’t even secure his own movie.
So the leak was from an editing studio hired by #Jananayagan‘s production team?
Basically @actorvijay couldn’t protect his own movie, he’s claiming he can protect Tamil Nadu! https://t.co/hsrrrFIlFS

Vijay supporters slammed the comment as unfair, while critics used it to question his political readiness. The timing added more heat. The film is widely described as Vijay’s final movie before he fully enters politics.
That means every controversy around ‘Jana Nayagan’ now carries political weight. And this one? It landed right in the middle of an election season.
Police crackdown and arrests
Meanwhile, authorities moved fast. The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing launched an investigation and arrested three key suspects on April 16. Officials said a freelance assistant editor allegedly accessed the film’s footage during editing.
According to the investigation, the footage was originally cut into reels. The suspect reportedly copied the reels, stitched them together into a full-length version, and leaked the movie online in high-definition print.
The situation escalated when the entire film appeared across piracy platforms. Soon after, the producers, KVN Productions, filed a formal complaint. They also sought an interim injunction to stop cable operators and online services from broadcasting the pirated copy.
The crackdown widened. So far, nine individuals linked to the leak have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Authorities say the probe is still ongoing, and more action may follow.
