Tension prevailed in Hindoli town of Rajasthan’s Bundi district on Tuesday as local traders and business houses organised a bandh to protest an alleged attempt by miscreants to desecrate a religious place.
According to police sources, anti-social elements threw objectionable waste material inside a local temple late on Monday night with the intention of disrupting social harmony.
Enraged by the provocative act of miscreants, activists from various Hindu organisations assembled at the local police station on Monday night and staged a demonstration.
Sensing trouble, the police swung into action and took six persons into custody for interrogation. An additional police force was also deployed as a precautionary measure.
A trade bandh was observed in the town on Tuesday in protest against the incident, which passed off peacefully despite prevailing tension.
