Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party chief Swami Prasad Maurya was attacked during a stopover in Raebareli while en route to Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the Mil Area police station limits at Saras Chauraha.
According to eyewitnesses, a youth initially approached Maurya and garlanded him, pretending to be a supporter. Moments later, he suddenly struck Maurya on the back of his head and attempted to flee. Maurya cried out in shock, prompting his supporters to react quickly and chase down the attacker.
The youth was caught and beaten by the workers before being rescued by security personnel. Another individual accompanying the attacker was also reportedly assaulted by the crowd.
Police intervened and took both men into custody for questioning. The identity of the attacker has not yet been confirmed.
Circle Officer (CO) City, Amit Singh, confirmed the incident and stated “Swami Prasad Maurya was traveling to Fatehpur and had stopped at Saras Chauraha after spotting some supporters. As they were garlanding him, a youth came from behind, hit him on the head, and tried to escape. He was caught and beaten by supporters.
Police rescued two youths and brought them to the police station for interrogation.”
Following the incident, Maurya launched a scathing attack on the Yogi Adityanath government, saying “Under the banner of Karni Sena, some pests are mocking the law and order situation in the state. The government is blind, deaf, and mute, simply watching the spectacle. This attack happened in the presence of the police, clearly showing how fearless these goons have become.”
This is not the first time Swami Prasad Maurya has been attacked. Two years ago in Lucknow, a man dressed as a lawyer threw a shoe at him during a backward class convention organized by the Samajwadi Party (SP). At that time too, the attacker was caught and severely beaten by SP workers before being rescued by the police.
