The Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Office, on the instructions of the Election Commission of India, has issued show-cause notices to 127 Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs) registered at addresses in the state.
These political parties had not submitted their annual audited accounts for the past three financial years (2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24) by the due date.
According to EC officials here on Tuesday, these political parties participated in various elections held in the past six years, from 2019 to the present, but failed to file their election expenditure statements within the stipulated timeframe. The provision is that election expenditure statements must be filed within 75 days after an Assembly election and within 90 days after a Lok Sabha election.
Regarding the show-cause notice, Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa stated that the presidents and general secretaries of all these parties may submit their representations, affidavits, and relevant documents to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Uttar Pradesh, by October 3, 2025. Additionally, they can present their case before the Chief Electoral Officer by appearing at his office on October 6, 7, 8, and 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. for a personal hearing.
He stated that if any such party does not provide a representation regarding the show-cause notice within the stipulated time, it will be assumed that such a political party has nothing to say in the matter. A report regarding such a party will be sent to the Election Commission of India.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has sent the show-cause notices to all these political parties by registered post at their registered addresses. A list of all these political parties, including their names and addresses, is also available on the websites of the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, Uttar Pradesh.
