The Jammu Railway Station and other sensitive areas have been placed on high alert after the BSF intercepted a pigeon carrying a threat note warning of an attack on the railway station, officials said on Thursday. The threat note was tied with the claws of the bird.
The unusual incident took place along the International Border in a village of the RS Pura sector of Jammu, officials said.
Personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) intercepted the bird and found a chit tied to its claws. The note, written in both Urdu and English, carried provocative slogans and a warning of an IED blast at Jammu Tawi Railway Station in the coming days. While the Urdu message read, “Kashmir is ours, the time has come, it will come,” the English portion stated, “Jammu Station IED Blast The End.”
Following the recovery, security was stepped up across Jammu with a special focus on the railway station and adjoining tracks. Additional police units, bomb disposal squads, and sniffer dogs have been deployed to rule out any immediate danger.
Officials said the incident, though unusual, cannot be taken lightly given the volatile security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. “Even unconventional threats demand utmost caution,” an officer remarked.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, a drone was reportedly spotted in the Gajansoo area along the international border with Pakistan on Thursday. Security agencies immediately launched a search operation in the region.
The twin incidents have raised fresh concerns about cross-border mischief and unconventional methods being employed to create panic and threaten security in the Union Territory.
