SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday said that his party was committed to spending Rs 500 crore on the integrated development of Naya Gaon once it formed the government in the state.

Addressing a public meeting here while campaigning for the municipal elections, the SAD president said, “We are committed to the holistic development of Naya Gaon. We will legalise all colonies and ensure a modern road network, along with the provision of sewerage and public lighting facilities. We will also upgrade the area and make it an integral part of New Chandigarh in all aspects.”

Asserting that he shared a personal connection with Naya Gaon and that former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had also spent considerable time in the area, Mr Badal said, “It is a matter of great concern that this area has been completely ignored by both the previous Congress government and the present AAP government. Even basic facilities are not being provided to the people.”

He further assured residents that he would revisit the same spot one year after the formation of the SAD government and ask the people whether all their grievances had been resolved.

Mr Badal also lauded the work being done by Ravinder Singh Khera and urged the people of the area to strengthen him politically.

Others present on the occasion included party leader Gurdhyan Singh and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member Ajmer Singh Khera.
