Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh on Monday stressed that women’s empowerment is a crucial part of India’s vision to become a developed nation by 2047.

Speaking at the valedictory session of the first National Conference of Parliamentary and Legislative Committees on Women’s Empowerment in Tirupati, Harivansh highlighted the significance of women’s empowerment in India’s progress.

Harivansh emphasized that empowering women is essential for India’s development, citing examples of women’s achievements in various fields, including politics, science, and technology.

He stressed the importance of gender budgeting, urging committees to not only increase allocations but also focus on expenditure efficiency to ensure maximum impact.

Harivansh quoted Savitribai Phule, a pioneering social reformer and educator, who said, “By educating women, we educate generations and build a just society.”

He also recalled Durga Bai Deshmukh’s words in the Constituent Assembly, “We have many examples where women have proven to be better managers than men,” highlighting women’s leadership capabilities.

The conference marked a renewed national dialogue on women’s empowerment, focusing on equipping women to lead in the age of technological change. Over 100 delegates from across the country participated in the two-day conference, discussing strategies for women’s inclusion in emerging technology-driven economies.

Harivansh further noted that the conference’s deliberations demonstrated a true spirit of constructive dialogue, with participants identifying key challenges and suggesting concrete solutions. He emphasized that such conferences should be held more frequently to promote women’s empowerment and development.
