Three people in their 20s died during the wee hours on Friday as an unidentified speeding vehicle crashed into their scooter from the rear near Gobindpur Chowk on National Highway Number 55 in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, police said.
The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run case has not yet been identified, nor have the identities of the deceased individuals been determined.
The fatal road accident led the agitated local people to block the highway, seeking government measures to curb the road accidents on the busy highway. Later, the locals withdrew the road blockade after the administrative officials assured proactive steps to reduce road accidents, police said, adding that an unnatural death case has been registered in this connection.
The poor visibility due to dense fog may be one of the causes of the road mishap, police added.
