A shocking case of honour killing has come to light in Agra, where a retired Uttar Pradesh Police sub-inspector allegedly strangled his own daughter to death after opposing her love relationship.
The victim’s body was later dumped in the Yamuna River. Acting on the accused father’s confession, police have recovered skeletal remains from the riverbank in Etawah district, officials confirmed on Monday.
The incident pertains to the Malpura police station area of Agra. The accused, Ranveer Singh Yadav (65), a retired sub-inspector, was a resident of Vinayak Garden. His daughter Anshu Yadav (35) was in a relationship with a neighbouring youth, Anurag Yadav, and wanted to marry him. Ranveer and other family members were strongly opposed to this relationship.
According to police, despite repeated objections from her family, Anshu remained firm on her decision. Enraged by this, Ranveer, along with other family members, allegedly strangled her to death. To dispose of the body, Ranveer took it to his in-laws’ place in Jaswant Nagar, Etawah, with the help of relatives and threw it into the Yamuna River. The body reportedly got stuck in bushes near the riverbank instead of flowing away.
After the incident, Ranveer had lodged a missing person report at Malpura police station, claiming that his daughter had been missing since October 30, 2025.
The case took a turn when Anshu’s boyfriend, Anurag Yadav, approached the police and submitted old videos of Anshu, in which she had expressed fear that her family might kill her. He directly accused her father of the murder, following which, police suspicion intensified.
Based on Anurag’s complaint, an FIR was registered late Sunday night at Malpura police station. Police detained nine people, including the victim’s father, her maternal uncle, and other relatives. During strict interrogation, Ranveer allegedly confessed to the crime and narrated the entire sequence of events.
Late Sunday night, a joint operation was conducted by Malpura police, SDRF team, and Badpura police of Etawah district. On Ranveer’s identification, skeletal remains were recovered from bushes along the Yamuna River near Sunwara village on the Gwalior bypass under Badpura police station limits. Police have stated that a DNA test will be conducted to confirm the identity of the remains.
On Monday, Malpura Station House Officer Vinod Mishra confirmed the recovery and said that legal proceedings are underway. Police are also investigating the role of other family members involved in the crime.
