Amid a nationwide uproar over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, a high-level meeting was reportedly held at the residence of Union Minister Rajnath Singh.
According to sources, the meeting was attended by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Abhishek Singh, and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The discussion reportedly lasted around 40 minutes.
Sources said the primary focus of the meeting was to address concerns among students and parents following the unprecedented cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 and to work towards restoring the credibility of the examination process. Officials are also believed to be considering stringent action against those found guilty in connection with the alleged leak.
Affecting lakhs of medical aspirants across the country, the National Testing Agency on May 12 cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3, marking the first time the national medical entrance test has been scrapped nationwide in its current format.
The agency had announced that the examination would be conducted afresh on dates to be notified later after reviewing inputs received from central agencies and investigative findings shared by law enforcement authorities.
“On the basis of the inputs subsequently examined by NTA in coordination with the central agencies, and the investigative findings shared by the law enforcement agencies…the National Testing Agency, with the approval of the Government of India, has decided to cancel the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on 3 May 2026, and to re-conduct the examination on dates that will be notified separately,” the agency had said in a statement.
