Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, saying he speaks ‘nonsense’ just to grab headlines.
“Rahul Gandhi speaks nonsense to grab headlines but that will not convert into a vote bank… The way Congress indulges in anti-national activities and attacks democracy, people of the country will never vote the party back to power,” Rijiju told news agency ANI.
He further stated that Rahul Gandhi may grab headlines but it will not convert into a vote bank.
“In any election, people support those who work in the national interest. Rahul Gandhi speaks nonsense to grab headlines, but that will not convert into a vote bank. Had I been in his place, I would have asked the government questions about national interest,” he said.
Apparently referring to Rahul Gandhi’s vote theft allegations against the Election Commission of India, the Union Minister said that the Congress will have to stop attacking constitutional institutions to come back to power.
Reflecting on the recently concluded Monsoon Session of Parliament, which saw repeated adjournments and uproar by Opposition members, Rijiju claimed that some MPs told him that they got orders from the above to create a ruckus.
“Their MPs come and tell us that we want a discussion, but orders have come from above to create a ruckus and not to participate in the debate…,” he said.
Rijiju also dismissed the Opposition’s charge that the government doesn’t reach out to them.
“We discuss forming committees with each other. We speak outside the Parliament. They come to my home. I visit Kharge Ji’s home. I met Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders. It is wrong that the government does not reach out. We go to the Opposition with joined hands…,” he added.
