Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday to review the political fallout from the recent Bihar assembly elections, where the party suffered a significant setback.
The meeting, attended by Congress Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru and state party chief Rajesh Ram, addressed the reasons behind the party’s poor performance in the state.
Earlier, Gandhi and Kharge had convened separate sessions with Bihar leaders and all contesting candidates at Indira Bhawan. These discussions were held in batches to gain insight into the factors that contributed to the party’s decimation in the polls.
Sources close to the party revealed that candidates pointed to several reasons for the defeat, including the NDA government’s Rs 10,000 incentive scheme for women voters, which boosted the ruling alliance’s appeal. Internal squabbles and factional differences within the Bihar Congress, coupled with the late distribution of party tickets, were also cited as key issues that hampered the party’s campaign.
Gandhi reportedly emphasized the need for introspection and cohesive action, asserting that it is crucial that we understand the ground realities and work unitedly to regain the trust of the people of Bihar.
According to sources, Kharge echoed this sentiment, saying the party will address the internal challenges and strengthen the grassroots connect to ensure better outcomes in the future.
