Former Uttar Pradesh minister and State Congress zonal coordinator Naseemuddin Siddiqui stirred controversy by calling Rahul Gandhi the “second Mahatma Gandhi.”
While addressing party workers at the MLK PG College auditorium here on Monday, Siddiqui urged people to trust Rahul Gandhi, stating, “See Mahatma Gandhi in Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the Congress. Trust him and work together to strengthen the party.”
Siddiqui said the Congress is facing communal forces and emphasized the need to change the party’s strategy to counter them. “The organisation must be strengthened,” he asserted.
Appealing for greater involvement, he urged workers to dedicate just two hours a day for 20 days a month to the party, which, he said, would be sufficient to reinforce the Congress at the grassroots.
He further encouraged party leaders to share in the joys and sorrows of the workers, calling them “the hands and feet of the organisation.”
He advised them to reach out to every household before the elections and spread awareness about the Congress party’s policies.
“Along with your home, hoist the Congress flag at your colleagues’ homes as well,” he said.
Siddiqui also criticized the “anti-people” policies of both the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh state government.
