Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has expressed profound grief over the passing away of eminent Punjabi comedian, actor, and academician Dr Jaswinder Bhalla.
Extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Speaker shared a cherished picture of Dr Bhalla with Bal Mukand Sharma, his wife Gurpreet Kaur Sandhwan, and daughter Sophia Kulreet Kaur at his residence in Chandigarh.
Remembering Dr Bhalla’s immense contribution, Speaker Sandhwan said that Jaswinder Bhalla, a legendary comedian who spread the fragrance of laughter through his unique style of satire and humor, has now fallen silent forever.
Through his sharp wit and thoughtful performances, Dr Bhalla not only entertained millions but also used comedy as a powerful tool to highlight social issues and challenge social evils. His art carried a message that touched the hearts of people across generations.
The Speaker further highlighted Dr Bhalla’s remarkable academic career. A doctorate in agriculture, Dr Bhalla served at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, where he contributed significantly to research and teaching in agricultural sciences.
His dedication towards the farming community and his efforts to promote prosperity in agriculture earned him equal respect as a scholar and educator.
Widely acclaimed for his iconic comedy series “Chhankata” and memorable performances in Punjabi cinema, Dr Bhalla became a household name, loved for his sharp social commentary, relatable characters, and unmatchable timing. His works not only brought joy but also fostered awareness, making him a cultural icon of Punjab.
