On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings and paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Teachers’ Day across India.
President Murmu, in a message released on the eve of Teachers’ Day, described teachers as the “guiding light of society” and “architects of the nation’s future.”
She said their role becomes even more vital as India advances towards becoming a developed nation.
“Through their wisdom, knowledge, and values, they nurture generations of students and inspire them to pursue excellence and innovation,” she said.
The President said, “As India moves ahead to achieve the goal of a developed nation, the role of teachers in preparing responsible, knowledgeable and skilled citizens becomes even more significant.”
Murmu also highlighted the National Education Policy 2020 as a reflection of the government’s commitment to empowering teachers and strengthening the education system.
“Let us strive to create a favourable environment that honors teachers and fosters creativity, compassion, and innovation in students,” she added, while conveying her best wishes to the entire teaching community.
Praising the role of the teachers in nurturing young minds and nation-building, PM Modi said in a post on X, “Wishing everyone, particularly all hardworking teachers, a very happy Teachers’ Day! The dedication of teachers to nurturing minds is the foundation of a stronger and brighter future. Their commitment and compassion are noteworthy. We also remember the life and thoughts of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, a distinguished scholar and teacher, on his birth anniversary.”
Teacher’s Day is observed on September 5 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second president of the country, and also a philosopher and an educationalist.
