Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday underscored the role of women in shaping a stronger India, saying their contribution across sectors is elevating the nation’s stature through dedication, resilience and service.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister described women as central to India’s growth story, even as Parliament prepares to take up crucial legislation on women’s representation. His remarks come at a time when the Lok Sabha is set to vote on key bills related to reservation for women and the formation of a delimitation commission.

“Our women’s power is the hallmark of a strong India. The mothers, sisters, and daughters of the nation are enhancing the pride of Bharatvarsha in every field today with their unbreakable resolve, devotion, and spirit of service,” he said.

Spiritual note alongside political messaging

Along with his message, PM Modi shared a Sanskrit verse dedicated to Goddess Ambika, invoking divine blessings for the country’s well-being.

The verse read: “We offer our reverent salutations to Ambika – worshipped by all the gods and great sages – who, through her divine power, pervades this entire universe and who is the very embodiment of the collective powers of all the deities. May that mother of the universe bestow welfare upon us.” (translated from Sanskrit)

Women’s reservation debate dominates Parliament session

The Prime Minister’s remarks follow his address in the Lok Sabha a day earlier during a special three-day session focused on women’s reservation and delimitation.

He had signalled the political significance of the legislation, cautioning that parties which resisted women’s rights in the past have faced backlash from voters. According to Modi, the proposed law has the potential to reshape both the direction and condition of India’s politics by increasing women’s participation in decision-making.

“We are privileged that we have an opportunity to give a new direction to the nation’s politics and strengthen democracy,” he said, urging parties to rise above political differences on the issue.

He also noted that women voters have historically responded strongly to attempts to block such reforms, framing the legislation as key to the broader vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Voting scheduled after extended debate

The Lok Sabha is expected to take up voting on the bills at 4 pm on Friday after an extended debate.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had earlier said discussions would run for 12 hours, with scope for extension. Speaker Om Birla later indicated that deliberations could stretch up to 15 to 18 hours to allow wider participation from members.
