Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern over the ill health of Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai and wished him a speedy recovery.
In a post on the social media platform X on Saturday, the Prime Minister said he had learned about Rai’s deteriorating health and prayed for his quick recovery.
According to preliminary information, a sodium deficiency may have caused the sudden deterioration in his condition, although further medical tests are underway. It is, however, a matter of relief that he is reported to be out of danger.
Reports indicate that after addressing an event in Lucknow, Rai returned home where he felt dizzy and fainted. He was immediately rushed to Medanta Hospital after complaining of blood pressure-related issues.
Uttar Pradesh Congress spokesperson Anshu Awasthi said Rai fell ill suddenly on Friday evening and was admitted to the hospital. His condition is now improving, and he remains under close medical supervision.
Notably, Rai contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi as a Congress candidate, where he was defeated by Modi by a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes. A five-time MLA, Rai has been serving as the state Congress president since 2023.
