Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday acknowledged Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation, wishing him good health.
In a statement, shared on X, PM Modi appreciated Dhankhar’s service to the country in various capacities, including as Vice President of India.
“Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji has got many opportunities to serve our country in various capacities, including as the Vice President of India. Wishing him good health,” the Prime Minister said in his post.
PM Modi’s reaction came shortly after reports said Dhankhar’s resignation had been accepted by President Droupadi Murmu.
In a sudden development on Monday, Jagdeep Dhankhar, who served as India’s 14th Vice President since August 2022, announced his resignation from the post of Vice President of India, citing health reasons.
In a letter addressed to the President, Dhankhar wrote, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”
He thanked President Murmu “for her unwavering support and the wonderful, soothing working relationship” they shared during his tenure.
Dhankhar, 74, also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the Council of Ministers. “The Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office,” he said.
