Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday carried the holy “Jore Sahib” of Guru Gobind Singh and Mata Sahib Kaur and ceremonially handed them to the Panth. The sacred relics were made available for ‘darshan’ at the at Gurdwara Moti Bagh Sahib, between 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
In a post on social media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “May the Guru Charan Yatra deepen our connection with the noble ideals of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji. I urge people in the areas this yatra will cover to come and have Darshan of the holy ‘Jore Sahib’.”
Puri stated that the sacred relics, “Charan Suhawa” of the founder of Khalsa Panth, Dasam Pita Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, and his wife Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, have been with his family for more than 300 years. The Union minister said he felt humbled while handing over the custody of the holy relics to Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
A special Kirtan Samagam was also held at Gurdwara Moti Bagh with devotees arriving in droves to pay their obeisance to the relics and seek blessings.
The Guru Charan Yatra will begin on October 23 from Gurdwara Moti Bagh and reach Faridabad by night. On October 24, it will travel from Faridabad to Agra; on the 25th to Bareilly; on the 26th to Mahangapur; on the 27th to Lucknow; on the 28th to Kanpur; on the 29th to Prayagraj; on the 30th it will proceed through Varanasi to Sasaram; on the 31st, it will reach Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh, Patna Sahib; and on the morning of November 1, it will arrive at Takht Sri Patna Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh marking the conclusion of the Yatra.
The nine-day yatra, which will cover over 1,500 kilometers, passing through several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, will conclude on November 1 at Takhat Sri Patna Sahib.
Earlier, taking to social media platform X, Puri informed that the holy relics would be taken to Guru Charan Yatra and will be permanently placed at the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, in Takht Sri Patna Sahib where the devout will be able to pay their obedience and perform Darshan.
The sacred relics comprise a single piece of footwear each, Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj’s right shoe, measuring approximately 11 inches by 3½ inches, and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji’s left shoe, about 9 inches by 3 inches.
