Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid out a set of nine resolutions for the nation, urging citizens to embrace them for building a developed India by 2047.
Addressing the massive Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme at the sacred Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi, Karnataka, the Prime Minister framed these appeals as essential “for our present and future”, drawing inspiration from the principles of duty in the Bhagavad Gita.
The nine resolutions cover vital aspects of national life, culture, and personal responsibility:
Water Conservation: Conserving water and protecting rivers; Tree Plantation: Participating in tree plantation campaigns like “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam”; Uplifting the Poor: Making an effort to improve the life of at least one poor person; Adopting Swadeshi: Embracing the idea of Swadeshi and being ‘Vocal for Local’; Promoting Natural Farming; Healthy Lifestyle: Adopting a healthy lifestyle, including millets in the diet, and reducing oil intake; Practicing Yoga and making it a part of life; Preserving Manuscripts: Supporting the preservation of India’s ancient knowledge hidden in manuscripts; and Visiting Heritage Sites: Visiting at least 25 places in the country connected with our heritage.
PM Modi further emphasised that the entire life of Lord Shri Krishna and every chapter of the Gita conveys the message of action, duty, and welfare.
“The Bhagavad Gita makes us aware of our duties and life commitments, and inspired by this, I urge everyone to adopt certain resolutions,” PM Modi stated, adding that once the community of saints blesses these appeals, “nothing will stop them from reaching every citizen.”
Recalling the collective recitation of the Gita by one lakh voices, the Prime Minister described the event as a moment of witnessing “the living divinity of India’s millennia-old spiritual heritage.” He added, “When so many people recite a sacred text like the Gita… a special energy emerges that gives the mind and intellect a new vibration and a new strength. This energy is the power of spirituality and also the power of social unity.”
The Prime Minister underscored Udupi’s historical significance, noting its connection to both Lord Shri Krishna and the founding of a new governance model.
“Udupi has been the karmabhoomi of the governance model of Jan Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party,” he remarked, recalling that the district laid the foundation for campaigns like cleanliness and robust water supply systems decades ago, which have now become “part of national development and national priority.”
PM Modi also highlighted the deep-rooted connection between Udupi and the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. He specifically paid tribute to the late Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejavara Matha.
“The entire nation knows the significant role Udupi has played in the Ram Mandir movement. Decades ago, Param Pujya late Vishwesh Tirtha Swamiji gave direction to the entire movement, and the Dhwajarohan ceremony has become a festival marking the fruition of that contribution.”
Drawing a direct parallel between the teachings of the Gita and India’s current policies, PM Modi asserted that Lord Shri Krishna’s wisdom inspires the government’s focus on the poor, women’s empowerment, and security.
He mentioned that the principle of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya’ is inspired by Lord Shri Krishna’s shlokas.
Referring to the country’s security stance, the Prime Minister linked the Gita’s message of establishing truth and eliminating oppressors to the nation’s firm security policy.
“India speaks of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and also reiterates the mantra ‘Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah’… Mission Sudarshan Chakra means building a protective wall around the country’s key locations… if the enemy dares to show audacity, then India’s Sudarshan Chakra will destroy them.”
The event marked the inauguration of the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa and the dedication of the Kanaka Kavacha for the sacred Kanakana Kindi at the Matha, established over 800 years ago by Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita philosophy. Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi were present among other dignitaries.
