Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Gujarat on November 15 to review the progress of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR), also known as the Bullet Train project, a government release Friday said.

The project is one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure initiatives, aiming to revolutionise inter-city travel by reducing travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just two hours.

“At around 10 AM, Prime Minister will visit the under-construction Bullet Train Station in Surat to review the progress of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR) — one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure projects symbolising the nation’s leap into the era of high-speed connectivity,” the government said.

The under-construction Bullet Train Station in Surat is designed to reflect the city’s world-renowned diamond industry. The station will feature spacious waiting lounges, restrooms, and retail outlets, ensuring a comfortable travel experience for passengers.

The MAHSR project spans approximately 508 kilometres, covering 352 km in Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and 156 km in Maharashtra. The project is being built with advanced engineering techniques, featuring 465 km of viaducts, which will minimise land disturbance and enhance safety.

Key Highlights of the Project:

Completion: The Surat-Bilimora section, covering 47 km, is in an advanced stage of completion, with civil works and track-bed laying fully completed.

Connectivity: The project will connect major cities, including Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai.

Impact: The project is expected to boost business, tourism, and economic activity along the entire corridor, catalysing regional development.

Sustainability: The station is designed with a strong focus on sustainability, featuring rainwater harvesting, low-flow sanitary fixtures, and eco-friendly paint.

PM Modi’s visit aims to assess the project’s progress and discuss the next steps with senior officials. The visit is expected to give a significant boost to the project’s completion, which is slated for 2027.
