Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday underscored the growing role of women in India’s development journey, saying the National Democratic Alliance government’s emphasis on women-led development over the past 12 years has created new opportunities and enabled women to contribute more significantly to nation-building.
In a series of posts on social media platform X, Modi said women were making their presence felt across a wide spectrum of sectors, reflecting the impact of government initiatives aimed at empowerment and inclusion.
”Over the last 12 years, the NDA Government has worked to further women-led development. And, this is visible across sectors,” the Prime Minister said.
Highlighting the expanding participation of women in public life and the economy, he added, “From financial inclusion and entrepreneurship to education, healthcare, sanitation, housing, sports, science and governance, women are playing a prominent role across diverse sectors.”
Modi said the government’s policies had been guided by the principles of dignity, opportunity and empowerment, helping women realise their potential and emerge as key stakeholders in the country’s progress.
”The efforts of the NDA Government are rooted in dignity, opportunity and empowerment. They have helped create an environment where women can realise their full potential and contribute even more strongly to nation-building,” he said, using the hashtag #12YearsOfNariShakti.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the increasing participation of women in cutting-edge sectors, expressing particular satisfaction at their achievements in science, innovation and space-related fields.
”I am particularly happy to see India’s Nari Shakti make a mark in sectors like science, space and innovation. Their growing participation in emerging fields such as drone technology is opening new avenues of opportunity and transforming development landscape across the nation,” he said.
Pointing to efforts aimed at strengthening women’s economic independence, Modi said the government was actively supporting Self Help Groups (SHGs), which have emerged as an important vehicle for financial empowerment.
”Our Government is actively supporting Self Help Groups, which are going a long way in making women financially independent,” he said.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came as the NDA government marked 12 years of its tenure at the Centre and highlighted achievements in women’s welfare and empowerment. Since coming to power in 2014, the government has rolled out a range of programmes focused on financial inclusion, sanitation, housing, maternal healthcare, entrepreneurship and skill development, while also promoting greater participation of women in leadership, technology-driven sectors and emerging industries.
The #12YearsOfNariShakti campaign has been used by the government and the BJP to showcase the achievements of women and the impact of initiatives aimed at enhancing their social and economic empowerment over the past decade.
