Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Union Minister Mukul Roy, remembering him as a seasoned political figure committed to public service.

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister extended his condolences to Roy’s family and well-wishers.

“Pained by the passing of former Union Minister Shri Mukul Roy Ji. He will be remembered for his political experience and efforts to serve society. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti,” Modi wrote.

Mukul Roy, a veteran politician from West Bengal, had a long and eventful journey in both state and national politics. Over the years, he handled significant organisational and ministerial responsibilities and was widely regarded as an astute strategist within party ranks.

He served as Union Minister of State for Shipping during the tenure of the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre. In West Bengal, Roy emerged as an influential political figure, playing a key role in shaping alliances and political developments in the state over the past decade.
