Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands at Palace Huis ten Bosch in The Hague, holding discussions on expanding bilateral cooperation in areas such as technology, innovation, sustainable development, commerce and water management.
The meeting took place during Modi’s ongoing visit to the Netherlands, which comes amid growing strategic and economic engagement between the two countries and increasing cooperation in emerging sectors including semiconductors, digital technology and clean energy.
In a post on social media platform X after the meeting, Modi said the interaction with the Dutch royals reflected the strong and forward-looking nature of India-Netherlands ties.
“Met His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima at the Royal Palace. It was wonderful exchanging perspectives on boosting India-Netherlands friendship across key sectors like technology, innovation, sustainable growth, commerce and water resources. India and the Netherlands are connected by shared interests and a shared belief in building a future-ready planet,” the Prime Minister said.
According to an official statement, Modi and the Dutch royals exchanged views on strengthening the bilateral relationship further, including by deepening people-to-people ties and enhancing collaboration across multiple sectors of mutual interest.
The Prime Minister also recalled with appreciation the State Visit of the Dutch King and Queen to India in 2019, describing it as a milestone that helped strengthen goodwill and provided fresh momentum to bilateral relations.
The leaders expressed satisfaction over ongoing joint initiatives in education, innovation, semiconductors, digital cooperation, water management and green partnerships, the statement said.
India and the Netherlands have steadily expanded cooperation in recent years, particularly in trade, climate action, agriculture, clean energy and water conservation. The Netherlands is among the largest foreign investors in India and serves as an important gateway for Indian companies entering the European market.
The two countries have also collaborated closely on sustainable urban development, river rejuvenation and climate-resilient infrastructure.
The Netherlands is internationally recognised for its expertise in water management and flood control, areas in which India has increasingly sought Dutch collaboration for major infrastructure and environmental projects.
During the meeting, Modi conveyed appreciation for the goodwill extended by the Dutch royal family towards India and thanked them for the warm hospitality during his visit. Their Majesties also hosted a luncheon in honour of the Prime Minister.
The visit is expected to further reinforce the strategic partnership between India and the Netherlands at a time when both countries are looking to deepen cooperation in future-oriented sectors and strengthen engagement between Europe and the Indo-Pacific region.
