Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked 11 years of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, saying the initiative has significantly contributed to promoting self-employment among India’s youth.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Exactly 11 years ago today, the Prime Minister’s Mudra Yojana was launched, and it has proven to be highly beneficial in promoting self-employment among the youth.” He noted that the scheme’s success reflects how access to the right opportunities can empower individuals to become self-reliant while also contributing to national progress.
Launched in 2015, the Mudra Yojana provides collateral-free loans to micro and small enterprises, with a focus on first-time entrepreneurs and small business owners. Over time, it has become a cornerstone of the government’s push for financial inclusion and entrepreneurship, particularly among women and marginalized communities.
Emphasising the values of perseverance and personal growth, Modi also shared a Sanskrit verse highlighting self-awareness, initiative, patience, and a steadfast commitment to righteousness. “One who possesses self-awareness, initiative, patience, and a constant commitment to righteousness—and who is not swayed away from their goals—is truly called a wise person,” he said.
Officials and supporters of the scheme have credited it with enabling millions of small entrepreneurs to access formal credit, reducing reliance on informal lending channels and boosting grassroots economic activity. The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid continued emphasis on self-reliance and entrepreneurship as central pillars of India’s development trajectory.
