Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay after he took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, while reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to work with the state government for public welfare.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Modi said, “Congratulations to Thiru C. Joseph Vijay on taking oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Best wishes for his tenure ahead. The Central Government will keep working with the Tamil Nadu Government to improve the lives of people.”
The Prime Minister’s remarks came soon after Vijay officially assumed office, capping a remarkable political journey for the Tamil film superstar who entered active politics amid mounting public speculation over his political ambitions.
His elevation to the Chief Minister’s post has generated widespread interest across the country due to his enormous fan base and expanding political appeal in the state.
Modi’s outreach is being viewed as a signal of cooperative engagement between the BJP-led Centre and the newly formed Tamil Nadu government, despite longstanding political and ideological differences between New Delhi and regional parties in the state.
In recent years, issues such as language policy, fiscal devolution, federal autonomy and allocation of central funds have often been flashpoints between the Union government and Tamil Nadu administrations.
Vijay had built his political campaign around themes of governance reform, youth empowerment, social justice and economic growth, drawing strong support from younger voters and first-time participants in the electoral process. His swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of senior political leaders, film personalities and thousands of supporters from across Tamil Nadu.
Political observers believe the leadership transition in Tamil Nadu could reshape the state’s political dynamics and influence national political equations, particularly in the context of the new government’s approach towards the Centre and its stand on key national issues.
