Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday conveyed his greetings to the nation on the auspicious occasion of Bhagwan Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, stressing the continued importance of the Jain spiritual leader’s teachings in today’s world.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister said, “Best wishes on the sacred occasion of Bhagwan Mahavir Janma Kalyanak. The life and teachings of Bhagwan Mahavir continue to illuminate the path of truth, non-violence, and compassion.”
He noted that Mahavir’s ideals go beyond spiritual guidance and remain highly relevant in addressing contemporary societal challenges.
“His ideals are spiritually uplifting and also deeply relevant in today’s world,” Modi said, pointing out that the principles of equality and kindness serve as a powerful reminder of collective duty.
“His emphasis on equality and kindness reminds us of our shared responsibility towards society,” he added.
Mahavir Jayanti is among the most significant festivals for the Jain community, commemorating the birth of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism. The day is observed with devotion across the country through prayers, processions, acts of charity, and reflection on his teachings.
Lord Mahavir, who lived in the 6th century BCE, played a pivotal role in shaping Jain philosophy. His core teachings of ahimsa (non-violence), aparigraha (non-possessiveness), and anekantavada (multiplicity of viewpoints) continue to influence moral and spiritual thought across the world.
The Prime Minister’s message coincides with nationwide celebrations highlighting the enduring values of peace, harmony, and compassion, which remain deeply relevant in an increasingly complex global environment.
