Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended his heartiest congratulations to the newly sworn-in National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who took the oath for a record tenth time.

Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar took oath as Bihar Chief Minister for a record tenth time in a grand ceremony at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan. Overall, 18 cabinet ministers and two deputy CMs took the oath.

The Prime Minister’s well-wishes, shared via his social media platform, recognised the depth of experience in the new cabinet and expressed confidence in its ability to deliver good governance. The swearing-in ceremony followed the NDA’s landslide victory in the recent Bihar Assembly elections, securing 202 out of the 243 seats.

In his first post, Prime Minister Modi singled out the veteran Janata Dal (United) chief, Nitish Kumar, who has navigated Bihar’s complex political landscape for over two decades.

“Congratulations to Shri Nitish Kumar Ji on taking oath as Bihar’s Chief Minister. He is an experienced administrator with a proven track record of good governance for many years. My best wishes to him for his tenure ahead,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

Kumar’s political journey, which began during the 1974 JP Movement and included multiple stints as Union Minister, has seen him serve as Chief Minister since 2005 with only a brief gap. His return for a tenth term solidifies his status as one of India’s most enduring political figures.

The Prime Minister also warmly welcomed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha, who took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers. Both leaders are expected to bring a strong grassroots focus to the new administration.

“Congratulations to Shri Samrat Choudhary Ji and Shri Vijay Sinha Ji on becoming Deputy Chief Ministers of Bihar. Both leaders have worked extensively at the grassroots in serving people. Best wishes to them,” said PM Modi, acknowledging their dedication to public service.

Samrat Choudhary, who previously served as the BJP’s Bihar state unit president and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, and Vijay Kumar Sinha, former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Leader of Opposition, are poised to be key pillars in the new government’s function.

In a comprehensive message encompassing the entire cabinet, the Prime Minister conveyed his optimism for the state’s future under the new leadership. Along with the Chief Minister and two Deputy CMs, several other ministers from the BJP and JD(U) took the oath of office at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna, an event attended by the Prime Minister himself and other top NDA leaders.

“My best wishes to all those who have taken oath as ministers in the Bihar government. This is a wonderful team, with dedicated leaders who will take Bihar to new heights. Wishing them the very best,” the Prime Minister concluded.

The formation of the new cabinet, which includes a mix of experienced veterans and fresh faces from the five-party NDA alliance, signals the start of a new chapter focused on accelerated development for the state.
