Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives in a tragic mishap in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district and announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased as well as those injured.
Extending his condolences to the bereaved families in a post on X, the Prime Minister said he was “deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to the mishap in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh”. “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the quick recovery of the injured,” he said.
Announcing ex gratia relief from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), Modi said an amount of Rs. 2 lakh would be given to the next of kin of each person who lost their life, while the injured would receive Rs. 50,000.
As details of the incident continued to emerge, local authorities in Mirzapur district initiated rescue and relief operations, with the injured being taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials said efforts were underway to determine the cause of the mishap and to ensure all possible assistance to those affected.
