Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he engaged in several productive meetings with world leaders. On the sidelines of the summit, he interacted with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, discussing key global issues.
PM Modi also met President Gabriel Boric Font of Chile, expressing his delight at the growing friendship between India and Chile. “Delighted to have met President Gabriel Boric Font of Chile during the Rio BRICS Summit. India-Chile friendship is getting stronger and stronger,” he said in a post on handle X.
Additionally, Mr Modi had an interaction with Dilma Rousseff, President of the New Development Bank and former President of Brazil. This meeting highlights India’s commitment to strengthening global cooperation and promoting development through institutions like the New Development Bank.
During these meetings, the prime minister emphasized the need for urgent reform in global institutions like the UN Security Council, IMF, World Bank, and WTO to reflect contemporary realities.
He advocated a multipolar and inclusive world order, stressing significant changes in global governance institutions to address 21st-century challenges.
PM Modi, thanking the leaders for condemning the Pahalgam terror attack in the strongest terms, called for zero tolerance in dealing with terrorism.
