Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday concluded his visit to Norway and departed for Rome, Italy, the final stop of his five-nation diplomatic tour aimed at strengthening India’s strategic and economic partnerships across Europe and beyond.
In Rome, Modi is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during what marks his first official bilateral visit to Italy. The two leaders are expected to review progress under the India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan and discuss expanding cooperation in areas such as defence, renewable energy, clean technology, maritime security and resilient supply chains.
A major focus of the discussions will be the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), a key connectivity initiative that India and several partner nations have been pushing to strengthen trade and infrastructure links across regions.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will also call on Italian President Sergio Mattarella and interact with leading Italian and Indian business executives to encourage greater investment and industrial collaboration between the two countries.
The Prime Minister’s itinerary in Rome also includes a visit to the headquarters of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and a diplomatic visit to Vatican City as part of the concluding phase of his Italy tour.
Before departing for Italy, Modi wrapped up a significant diplomatic engagement in Norway, where he held bilateral talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and participated in the third India–Nordic Summit alongside leaders from Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Norway.
The summit saw India and the Nordic nations agree to elevate their ties to a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership, with a focus on clean energy, sustainable development, digital innovation and future-oriented cooperation.
In a major gesture underscoring growing bilateral ties, Prime Minister Modi was conferred the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, Norway’s highest civilian honour awarded to foreign dignitaries.
Sharing his remarks on social media platform X after concluding the Norway visit, Prime Minister Modi said, “Concluding a very fruitful visit to Norway. Held productive talks with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and participated in the India-Nordic Summit, where important decisions were taken to deepen cooperation in many areas.”
“I thank the people of Norway, PM Støre and the Government of Norway for their warmth and friendship,” he added.
Modi’s five nation engagements are part of India’s broader diplomatic outreach across Europe and the Middle East, reflecting New Delhi’s increasing emphasis on sustainability, innovation, strategic connectivity and global economic cooperation.
