Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced a financial assistance package of Rs 1,200 crore for flood-hit areas of Uttarakhand and met with affected families, offering condolences and assurance of support.
He made the announcement after visiting Dehradun to review the flood situation and damage caused by cloudbursts, rains, and landslides in Uttarakhand.
The Prime Minister’s visit aimed to assess the damage and review relief and rehabilitation measures undertaken by the state government. Modi emphasized the need for a multi-dimensional approach to help the region recover, including rebuilding homes, restoring infrastructure, and providing relief to affected families.
The government announced various relief measures, including, Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured, assistance to children orphaned by the floods through the PM CARES for Children scheme, rebuilding of homes under the PM Awas Yojana, and restoration of national highways and reconstruction of schools.
Media reports said that due to bad weather, the PM’s aerial survey has been cancelled keeping security in mind.
PM Modi was scheduled to conduct an aerial survey of the disaster-affected areas of Uttarakhand on Thursday evening.
