Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sadness over the loss of lives and injuries after multiple vehicles plunged into the Mahisagar River after a bridge collapsed in Gujarat’s Vadodara and announced an ex-gratia relief package for the victims’ families.
As per media reports, at least nine people were killed, and as many rescued after multiple vehicles fell into the Mahisagar River when a 43-year-old bridge in Gujarat’s Vadodara district collapsed early Wednesday.
“The loss of lives due to the collapse of a bridge in Vadodara district, Gujarat, is deeply saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” PM Modi tweeted on handle X.
The Prime Minister announced that an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Additionally, the injured would receive Rs 50,000.
“An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000,” PM Modi stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting those affected by the tragedy.
