Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday expressed heartfelt appreciation for the warm reception accorded to the Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha, brought recently from India to Bhutan, highlighting their deep spiritual significance as a symbol of peace, compassion, and harmony linking the two nations.

In a message posted on his official X handle, PM Modi said, “Heartfelt appreciation to the people and leadership of Bhutan for the reverent welcome accorded to the Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha from India. These relics symbolize the timeless message of peace, compassion, and harmony. The teachings of Lord Buddha are a sacred link between our two nations’ shared spiritual heritage.”

As part of his ongoing engagement with Bhutan, Modi is scheduled to undertake a two-day visit starting November 11. During this visit, he will join hands with His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to inaugurate the 1,020-megawatt Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project, a milestone in the joint development efforts of India and Bhutan aimed at boosting regional energy security and cooperation.

The prime minister will also participate in celebrations marking the 70th birth anniversary of Bhutan’s Fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, and meet former Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay to discuss broadening bilateral collaboration.

Adding a spiritual dimension to his visit, Modi will attend the Global Peace Prayer Festival and offer prayers to the Holy Relics at the historic Tashichhodzong monastery in Thimphu, underscoring the shared cultural and religious ties that cement India-Bhutan relations.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has noted that PM Modi’s visit presents an opportunity to deepen the bilateral partnership and exchange views on regional and global challenges, reinforcing the enduring friendship between the two Himalayan neighbors.

This visit not only celebrates shared heritage but also strengthens the strategic and developmental partnership pivotal to peace and prosperity in the region.
