A new milestone in the aviation sector was achieved with the opening of Phase I of Noida International Airport on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the much-awaited aviation hub in Jewar. Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Uttara Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present on the occasion.

Positioned as a game-changer for connectivity in North India, the airport marks a major push in the region’s infrastructure development. It becomes NCR’s second international airport, strengthening India’s global aviation footprint.

Built at an investment of around ₹11,200 crore under the PPP model, the airport is set to emerge as a key gateway for the National Capital Region. Once operational, it will complement Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, easing congestion while boosting passenger and cargo movement across Noida, Greater Noida, and beyond.

Here’s a closer look at what makes Noida International Airport stand out:

  • A massive 3,900-metre runway designed to handle wide-body aircraft with ease.

  • Spread across 1,334 hectares, making it one of India’s largest greenfield airport projects.

  • Phase I to handle 12 million passengers annually, with future expansion planned up to 70 million.

  • Expected to begin domestic flight operations by late April, enhancing regional connectivity.

  • Equipped with advanced Instrument Landing System (ILS) for smooth landings even in low visibility.

  • Round-the-clock operations supported by modern airfield lighting systems.

  • An Integrated Cargo Terminal designed to handle over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually.

  • A 40-acre Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility to support aviation services.
