West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday protested the first anniversary of demonetisation and observed 8 November as a black-day by changing her display picture (DP) on Twitter to a black.

Banerjee took to Twitter for raising her voice against demonetisation.

Banerjee wrote on social media that demonetisation “in all practical sense, yielded big, big zero.”

The Bengal CM said neither demonetisation could combat terrorism, nor black money nor aid to development of the country. Due to demonetisation, she said, the country has already lost its GDP worth nearly Rs 3-lakh crore.

The GDP fell to 6.1% growth in between January and March 2017 compared to 9.1% in the previous year. It further plummeted to 5.7% between April and June 2017, compared to 7.9% in the previous year, said Banerjee on her official Facebook account.

Demonetisation was a “black decision” worth every sort of condemnation, Banerjee said, adding that 8 November this year will be observed as “Kaala Dibas” (Black Day) to protest against demonetisation and the unparalleled damage it caused to the country and its economy.

On 6 November, Bengal CM Banerjee in a series of tweets on Twitter said, that note ban is a “disaster” and will protest the ‘black day’ by changing Twitter display picture to black.

She said that “ill-famed” note ban or demonetisation was a “big scam” and  a “thorough investigation”  will prove it.

Baanerjee further wrote that, demonetisation was not implemented to “combat black money” but to “convert black money into white.”

Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has been one of the most vocal opponents of demonetisation. Mamata had also submitted a memorandum against demonetisation to the President.

Mamata Banerjee also protested the Goods and Services (GST) tax policy, and TMC had boycotted the midnight function in Parliament when GST was rolled out on July 1.
