A day after being appointed as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national working president, Bihar minister Nitin Nabin on Monday began his transition on a note of personal tribute and political signalling, ahead of his formal coronation ceremony scheduled later today in Delhi.

Before leaving for the capital, Nabin paid homage to his father, veteran BJP leader and former MLA Navin Kishore Prasad Sinha, in Patna. Speaking to reporters, he said the party leadership had consistently guided workers “to not just work and learn but also to go ahead”, adding that he was beginning the journey ahead with his father’s blessings.

He also visited the Mahavir Mandir, saying the darshan filled him with energy as he prepared to take on the new organisational responsibility. “I have reached here with the blessings of God,” Nabin said.

Patna–Delhi move ahead of formal charge

Party leaders said Nabin was scheduled to depart for Delhi in the morning, where senior leaders from the national and state units would receive him at the airport before proceeding to the BJP headquarters. His coronation ceremony, marking the formal assumption of charge as National Working President, is slated for later today.

According to Bihar ministers, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and senior party functionaries were expected to welcome him upon arrival, underlining the organisational importance attached to the appointment.

How and why Nitin Nabin was picked

Nabin’s appointment was announced on Sunday, with the decision taking immediate effect. The move is seen within the party as part of a generational transition and is expected to place him in line to eventually succeed BJP president JP Nadda, whose term has already been extended beyond 2024.

At 45, Nabin is among the youngest leaders to be elevated to such a senior national organisational role, a factor repeatedly highlighted by party leaders while reacting to the decision.

Nitin Nabin’s political profile

A five-time MLA from the Bankipur assembly constituency in Patna, Nabin currently serves as the Public Works Department minister in the Bihar government and has held ministerial responsibilities twice. He has also served as the BJP’s in-charge for Chhattisgarh and has worked extensively within the party’s youth wing.

Party leaders have pointed to his RSS background and long association with the organisation as factors that weighed in his favour.

Bihar pride and youth messaging

Union minister Giriraj Singh described the appointment as a moment of pride for Bihar, calling Nabin the youngest national president so far. He said the decision sent a message to the country’s youth that the BJP was willing to entrust major organisational responsibilities to younger leaders.

Singh expressed confidence that Nabin would represent all sections of the party and work towards presenting a united front.
