The death toll of kids due to kidney failure, suspected to have been caused by the consumption of the now-banned toxic cough syrup ‘Coldrif’, reached 26 in Madhya Pradesh, with the death of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl on Wednesday.
The latest fatality was of Ambika Vishwakarma, who succumbed during treatment at a hospital in nearby Nagpur in Maharashtra. Vishwakarma belonged to Kakai Bilwa village in Chaurai tehsil of Chhindwara district.
She had fallen seriously ill in early September. When local treatment did not improve her condition, her family took her to Nagpur on 14 September.
However, despite treatment for a month, she could not be saved and breathed her last today.
Two more kids are still admitted to hospitals in Nagpur in critical conditions, fighting a battle between life and death.
