MP CM Mohan Yadav pays tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on National Sports Day

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav paid tributes to hockey legend Padma Bhushan late Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary on 29 August, celebrated every year, as the ‘National Sports Day’.

CM Dr Yadav said that Major Dhyan Chand’s unmatched dedication and determination brought pride to India on the global stage.

The Chief Minister extended greetings to the people of the state on this occasion and wished great success to all athletes bringing glory to the nation and the state through their sporting achievements. He highlighted that Major Dhyan Chand’s exceptional skills and devotion to the game left an indelible mark on the world of hockey.

Between 1926 and 1948, hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand scored over 1,000 goals in his career and led India to three consecutive Olympic Hockey gold medals in 1928, 1932, and 1936.

Dhyan Chand was born on 29 August 1905 in Prayagraj.
