Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on Thursday mocked Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party, saying that the LoP’s level of political acumen can be gauged by the fact that while elections were taking place in Bihar, Gandhi was enjoying a vacation in Pachmarhi, the famous hill station of Madhya Pradesh.

The MP CM further said that the Congress party continues to remain ‘in the air’, which is why it has stayed out of power for so long and will continue to sit in the opposition for another 50 years if things don’t change.

Dr Yadav made the comments at an event at Dewas in Madhya Pradesh, where he transferred Rs 233 crore to the bank accounts of 1.33 lakh soybean farmers under the Bhavantar scheme and said the state government is committed to ensuring fair prices for farm produce.

The CM symbolically pressed a remote button to transfer the funds. He asserted that the state’s identity as the “soybean state” was built on the hard work of farmers.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, both the Centre and the state are committed to ensuring that farmers get fair prices for their crops. That is why we launched the Bhavantar scheme, the first of its kind in the country,” he highlighted.

Under the scheme, the state government compensates farmers from its treasury for the difference between the minimum support price (MSP) announced by the Centre and the lower prices offered by traders in mandis.

CM Dr Yadav alleged that the Congress has never worked for the welfare of farmers. “The Congress has done nothing for the benefit of farmers, and Rahul Gandhi claims that he can turn potatoes into gold,” Dr Yadav quipped.

During the event, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stones for development works worth over Rs 180 crore in Dewas.

Polling for the state Assembly elections on 243 assembly seats in Bihar was held in two phases on November 6 and 11, while results would be declared on November 14.

Rahul Gandhi had visited Pachmarhi on 9 November to address a training camp of district Congress presidents, where he dined with the participants and their families and also stayed the night. He went on a jungle safari on 10 November, before leaving for Bihar to campaign.
