Mayawati to hold mega rally in Lucknow ahead of UP panchayat elections

In a significant political move, BSP chief Mayawati will hold a massive rally in Lucknow on October 9 ahead of the Uttar Pradesh panchayat elections, demonstrating her strength after a gap of nine years.

The rally will be held on the occasion of BSP founder Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary at the Kanshi Ram Memorial site.

The party has set an ambitious target of mobilising a crowd of three lakh people for the event. Mayawati herself will be present at the rally, which the party claims will be historic in scale.

Mayawati held a review meeting at the BSP headquarters in Lucknow on Sunday to assess preparations for the upcoming rally. Senior leaders, including Satish Chandra Mishra, MLA Umashankar Singh, state president Vishwanath Pal, and all divisional and district in-charges and presidents, attended the meeting.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, MLA Umashankar Singh stated, “This will be a historic rally. A massive turnout of the Bahujan community from across the state is expected, and it will break all previous records.”

Notably, Mayawati’s nephew Akash Anand and his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth were absent from the meeting, although no official reason was given for their absence.

The last major rally held by the BSP at the same venue was on October 9, 2016—nine years ago. That event witnessed a turnout of around one lakh people but ended in tragedy due to a stampede that claimed three lives and injured several others.

After announcing the rally, enthusiastic party workers were seen raising slogans like “Rally nahi rela hoga, BSP ka mela hoga” (It won’t just be a rally, it’ll be a massive gathering – a BSP fair).

To ensure high turnout, the party has instructed each assembly constituency to arrange 50 buses to bring supporters to the venue. Mayawati has appealed to all party workers and supporters to make the event a landmark in the party’s history.
