Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Friday demanded a thorough investigation into two separate incidents in Uttar Pradesh — the murder of a teenage boy in Greater Noida and the collapse of an under-construction bridge in Hamirpur that claimed the lives of several workers.
In a statement posted on social media, Ms Mayawati expressed concern over the murder of 15-year-old Gopal Sharma in Jewar area of Greater Noida. Calling the incident “deeply saddening and concerning,” she urged the state government to order a high-level probe and ensure strict punishment for all those involved in the crime.
She said the law and order situation in the state must be handled with seriousness and sensitivity, especially in cases involving crimes against minors.
The BSP supremo also raised the issue of the tragic bridge collapse in Hamirpur district, where several labourers lost their lives and many others were injured after an under-construction bridge structure gave way on Thursday.
Demanding accountability, Ms Mayawati said the government should take the incident seriously, conduct a proper investigation into the causes of the collapse, and fix responsibility for any negligence. She further urged the authorities to provide adequate financial compensation to the families of the deceased workers and ensure proper treatment and special care for those injured in the accident.
The incidents have triggered political reactions in the state, with opposition leaders questioning safety standards at construction sites and the overall law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.
