Mayawati calls for urgent improvement in workers’ conditions on Labour Day

BSP leaders Mayawati

Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati expressed concern over the plight of the country’s labourers and workers on the occasion of Labour Day.

She stated that despite numerous efforts, the condition of both male and female labourers, as well as the working class across the country, has not yet improved to the desired extent.

In her message, she stated that the significance of Labour Day remains undiminished. On this occasion, she extended her greetings to all members of the working class engaged in the daily struggle for survival and wished them a brighter future.

Mayawati said that labourers and the working class have played a vital role in nation-building. Recalling the contributions of Dr B. R. Ambedkar, she noted that he worked tirelessly to ensure a dignified and prosperous life for workers both before and after Independence.

However, she expressed concern over the current situation, stating that the working class is facing new challenges, including job insecurity due to the contract system, daily wage employment, and the growing trend of hiring and firing. These issues, she said, are adversely affecting workers’ families, as well as their access to education and healthcare.

She also highlighted that the lack of a safe working environment for women continues to be a serious concern.

Mayawati urged all governments to ensure meaningful participation of labourers and the working class in the country’s development.

She expressed confidence that her party’s struggle has always been dedicated to the rights of the working class and the Bahujan Samaj, and will continue to do so.
