In a major crackdown, the security agencies today busted an ISI-backed terror plot, following the arrest of eight persons from West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. As per the officials, the arrested persons are linked to Bangladesh-based terror groups and were being funded by Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI.

Six suspects, identified as Mizanur Rahman, Mohammed Shabat, Umar, Mohammed Litan, Mohammed Shahid, and Mohammed Ujjal, were arrested from a garment factory in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu. One of the arrested individuals is a Bangladeshi national, as confirmed by the authorities. Delhi Police brought all the suspects from Tamil Nadu to Delhi. The other two accused were arrested from West Bengal.

The preliminary findings suggest that the suspects were plotting attacks across different parts of the country. These accused, suspected of aiding terrorists, conducted a recce of several cities.

Intel warns of terror attacks

The arrests come amid warnings from intelligence agencies that the ISI-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba is attempting to establish local modules in the country to execute a series of attacks.

One of the intel inputs also alerted that the Lashkar-e-Taiba was plotting an attack near the Red Fort. Another alert by the intelligence agencies speaks about a plot to target temples in North India.

Revelations from probe so far

According to police, the accused persons used to post on social media supporting Pakistan-based terror groups, with concealed identities. The police said that the accused persons communicated via social media.

Following the arrests, police seized eight mobile phones and 16 SIM cards from the accused. All of them were using fake Aadhaar cards.

Notably, four of the accused came to Delhi during the AI Summit and posted ‘Free Kashmir’ and other incriminating posters at a metro Station. Following this, they went back to Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

For further investigations, the arrested persons are being handed over to the Delhi Police.
