Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday rejected Trinamool Congress party’s allegations of secret deal between the BJP and Humayun Kabir in West Bengal to sway the minority votes, asserting that the saffron party will never ally with those building Babri Masjid.

Addressing the manifesto release event in Kolkata, Shah said that the BJP and Humayun Kabir are like south and north poles and that the party would rather sit in the opposition for the next 20 years than ally with him.

“Mamata ji can make 2,000 videos. Humayun Kabir and the BJP are like south pole and north pole; we can never unite. BJP will never ally with those who are building Babri Masjid in Bengal; we’d rather sit in the Opposition for 20 years,” he said.

His remarks come a day after the Trinamool Congress shared a purported video of former leader Humayun Kabir, alleging that the BJP offered him Rs 1,000 crore to mislead the minority community.

The TMC alleged that the “EXPLOSIVE sting operation video” exposes the BJP’s “dirty conspiracy against Bengal.”

“In the video, Humayun Kabir openly admits that BJP PAID him ₹1,000 crore to mislead the minority community, and claims that senior BJP leaders like Himanta Biswa Sarma, Mohan Yadav, and even the PMO were involved in this CONSPIRACY,” the TMC wrote on X.

The Statesman could not independently vouch for the authenticity of the purported video, in which Humayun Kabir is heard saying that he wants to remove West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at any cost and that BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has promised him Rs 1,000 crore.

“I told Suvendu Adhikari that I need money — to consolidate Muslims and secure their votes in the elections… the entire target would be ₹1,000 crore,” he is heard saying in the video in Hindi.

Humayun Kabir, who had given a call for the construction of the Babri Mosque in Murshidabad, was suspended from the party last year. He subsequently quit the TMC and floated his own party – Aam Aadmi Unnayan Party (AJUP).
