Kejriwal visits Sonam Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar, warns BJP of ‘2014-like fate’

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday visited Jantar Mantar where renowned scientist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk is sitting on an indefinite hunger strike for the past 18 days.

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP from Jantar Mantar, Kejriwal recalled his 2011 anti-corruption movement against the then Congress government as he warned the ruling party of a 2014-like fate.

“Listen to the youth, the movement, and Sonam Wangchuk; otherwise, three years later, you (Central Government) will meet a 2014-like fate,” Kejriwal said while addressing the gathering.

Following the Anna Hazare-led movement, the Congress party lost miserably to the Narendra Modi-led BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Kejriwal demanded that Wangchuk be made the new Education Minister of the country.

“I also extend a proposal — Dharmendra Pradhan should resign, and the Prime Minister should make Sonam Wangchuk the Education Minister of the country,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court, earlier in the day, directed that Wangchuk’s medical condition be clinically monitored daily during his ongoing hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia observed that “the life of every citizen is precious and all efforts ought to be made by the government authorities to save the same.”
