Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, reaffirming the strong bilateral ties between India and Vietnam.
“PM Phạm Minh Chính of Vietnam and I met in Johannesburg. Our commitment to a stronger, future-oriented friendship between India and Vietnam remains steadfast,” Modi said in a post on X, highlighting the positive outcome of the meeting.
The meeting underscores the growing importance of India-Vietnam relations, with both countries seeking to enhance cooperation in areas like trade, investment, and defense. Vietnam is a key partner in Southeast Asia, and India is looking to strengthen its ties with the region.
The two leaders discussed ways to boost economic cooperation, including in areas like manufacturing, infrastructure, and digital technology. They also emphasized the importance of cultural and people-to-people ties, with Vietnam home to a significant Indian diaspora.
The meeting comes as India seeks to strengthen its Act East policy, with Vietnam a key partner in the region. The two countries are expected to work together on initiatives like the Indo-Pacific Economic Corridor and the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement.
