India on Wednesday voiced deep concern over the renewed escalation of tensions in West Asia following recent attacks, including fresh targeting of commercial shipping transiting international waterways, and called on all parties to exercise restraint, de-escalate the situation and return to dialogue to prevent further deterioration of regional security.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of External Affairs said the latest developments posed a serious threat to peace and stability in the region and could have far-reaching consequences for global trade and energy security.
“India is deeply concerned over the recent attacks and escalation of tensions in West Asia, which have followed fresh
of commercial shipping transiting international waterways in the region,” the MEA said.
The ministry warned that the unfolding situation risked undermining regional peace, security and stability at a time when the region continues to grapple with multiple conflicts and humanitarian challenges.
“These developments risk undermining regional peace, security and stability,” the statement said.
Calling for immediate efforts to prevent further escalation, India urged all stakeholders to exercise maximum restraint and ensure the safety of civilians while safeguarding vital maritime trade routes.
“India calls upon all parties to exercise restraint, de-escalate tensions, and ensure protection of civilians as well as the uninterrupted flow of energy supplies and commerce,” the MEA said.
Emphasising that diplomacy remains the only viable path to resolving the crisis, New Delhi appealed to all sides to return to negotiations.
“We urge the parties to return to dialogue and diplomacy to achieve a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict,” the statement added.
The remarks come amid renewed instability in West Asia following attacks on commercial vessels navigating key international shipping lanes, raising concerns over the security of maritime trade and the uninterrupted movement of energy supplies through one of the world’s most strategically significant regions.
The escalation has heightened fears of broader regional instability, with several countries closely monitoring developments due to their potential impact on global oil markets, international commerce and supply chains.
India, which has longstanding strategic and economic ties with countries across West Asia and relies significantly on the region for its energy imports, has consistently advocated restraint, dialogue and respect for international law in responding to regional crises.
New Delhi has repeatedly underlined the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation, protecting civilian lives and pursuing diplomatic solutions to conflicts, while maintaining close engagement with all stakeholders in the region.
